Newport-25 Standard Installaton

Attached below is a datasheet that gives an overview of the Newport-25 system, including some advantages of electric propulsion in sailboats, and advantages of LiFePO4 batteries.

Newport motors are designed as a drop-in replacement that give sailboats a straightforward path to repower with Electric Propulsion. Our motors mount into the engine bed and couple to the propeller shaft in the same way as the most common diesel engines (e.g., Yanmar 3YM30 and 3YM20).

Why does Electric Propulsion work well in Sailboats?

  1. Power and speeds are relatively low in sailboats
  2. Sailboats need a powerful motor for hours at a time, but they also use the wind so battery power can be managed and used strategically as needed
  3. Marinas already provide electric shore power in slips, for easy recharging
  4. Recharge by Regen (prop-dragging), Generator, Solar, and Wind Turbine Electric Propulsion System

Advantages of AC Induction Motors:

  1. Improved Efficiency
  2. Silent Operation
  3. Ease of Use
  4. Low Maintenance
  5. Improved Maneuverability
  6. Reduced Emissions

Advantages of LiFePO4 Batteries:

  1. Longer Lifespan
  2. Lighter Weight
  3. Higher Energy Density
  4. Improved Performance
  5. Improved Safety
  6. More Cost Effective
