Many types of sailboats can easily to transition to electric propulsion.

Electric propulsion is clean, safe, reliable, and very practical for a vast and increasing number of recreational marine applications.  Pushing a sailboats is an excellent fit for electric motors, and many types of sailing.

Newport Electric Boats LLC was established in 2020 and has been operating its products on the water for over a year, including it's 25-kW inboard motor, a modular 10 kWh LFP battery, and a new BEV cockpit computer.

We've started our mission by addressing a niche within the sailboat space.  We provide a drop-in replacement for diesel engines up to 30HP, which captures a large portion of the sailboat market.  Sailboats originally outfitted with a diesel engine, now have a simple and straightforward path to transitioning to a clean, quiet, odorless, and powerful electric drive system.

Our motor installs in the same space and in the same way as the original diesel engine. It gets mounted to the motor mounts, and couples to the propeller shaft like the original diesel. This simplifies installations and is familiar to anyone accustomed to working with boats.

Sailboat manufactures can use our propulsion system as orderable option during the sales process of their new boats.

ZERO EMISSIONS is our objective. Product safety, reliability, performance, and ease of use is how we will get there.  Ongoing product testing and improvements are being integrated into our designs continuously.  We're on a mission to help transition boating to use electric propulsion.

The company’s founder and CEO, Walt White, is an experienced sailor, engineer, and entrepreneur. Walt holds degrees in Electrical Engineering from ASU, and an MBA from UC Irvine. Working over 25 years in new product development, with tons of hands-on experience in software and systems engineering, electrical engineering, product management and business.
